Do You Remember Me
Looking for relations...
"Hello,
I live in Calgary, Albarta Canada, and was looking on the web site during my lunch break. Just thought I would try Droylsden as that was where I was born and lived until 17. What a nice find, such memories. My name is Carol Lloyd, born 1959, I was Carol Prince, and I went to Manchester Road school (opposite the Bee Hive ?) and then to Droylsden Girls School) If any of my old friends read this I would love to get in touch. Congratulations and thank you for the walk down memory lane. I will show my children so that they can have an appreciate of my young life.

Carol Lloyd (bronnie@home.com)

I was resident in Droylsden from 1942 to 1963, though my mother lived there until her death in 1985.

I've recently started to research my family tree, which inevitably led me back to Droylsden and the Great Nostalgia Trip.
My great-grandfather, William Booth and my great-grandmother Sarah lived at 4 Emily Street, Droylsden.  I have no recollection of this street and I guess it no longer exists.
My great-great-grandfather, Noah Holmes and my great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Holmes lived at 10 Grimshaw Street (off Edge Lane, just up from the Barley Mow PH).  The Holmes family (less Noah) moved to 70 Edge Lane (also known as the Bow-legged Row) some time between 1881 and 1891.  Just after that my greatgrandfather, Harry, married Jemmima and moved into 72 Edge Lane.

They had 2 children, Thomas, my grandfather and Noah.  My grandfather married Margaret Poole and had one daughter, my mother, Winifred, who married William Booth of 85 Laburnam Road, Denton.  My father was actually born in Stanley Street, Droylsden, a stones throw from the Holmes family in Grimshaw Street and Edge Lane.

"Where's all this leading?" you may ask.  Well, if you or any of your circle of friends know anything about either of these families, I'd love to here about it.
Incidentally, if anyone has any knowledge of the Gorton & Openshaw Prize Silver Band it would be a great plus.  Both my father and grandfather were solo horn players in the band.
